Discover the extraordinary birdlife of Northern Peru

This September, Birding North Peru is heading to the 12th edition of the Delta Birding Festival, held from September 18 to 20 in Deltebre, Catalonia.

This year marks Peru’s first participation in the festival, in association with CANATUR. For three days, birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts and professionals from around the world will come together to share one thing in common: a passion for birds and the places that make observing them possible.

A birding journey across Northern Peru

Northern Peru is an extraordinary biodiversity hotspot. The northern Peru birding route is home to around 1,600 bird species, crossing a remarkable variety of ecosystems and habitats.

San Martín and Amazonas, at the heart of our birding route, are particularly rich in birdlife and endemic species. Amazonas alone is home to at least 22 bird species endemic to Peru, including some of the country’s most sought after birds. Among them are the extraordinary Marvelous Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis) and the elusive Long whiskered Owlet (Xenoglaux loweryi), two iconic species that can be found along our route through Amazonas and San Martín.

From the forests of San Martín to the cloud forests and mountains of Amazonas and beyond, our route offers exceptional opportunities to discover the remarkable birdlife of Northern Peru.
